Costa Rica Holiday:

Costa Rica is a country which offers a great deal – even on a short trip. And a visit is genuinely sustainable. The country has one of the world’s best
systems of accreditation for responsible tourism, based on a four-fold set of criteria: biological
conservation (including recycling and sustainable infrastructure), work to support the local
community; the education of guests and excellence of service. This nine-night tailor-made trip packs
in the highlights – taking you from the high cordillera to the turtle nesting beaches of the Caribbean
and talc-fine beaches of the Pacific Coast with the steaming volcano at Arenal and the misty cloud
forests of Monteverde in between.

gallery rainforests, channeled by rivers and creeks and fringed with long sweeping Caribbean

This is one of the best birdwatching destinations in Central America and the key preserve for one of the most spectacular birds in the Americas, the resplendent quetzal. It’s a magical spot. Trails run through misty forests shrouded with moss and lichens and with myriad orchids in the trees. Glades reveal stunning clear mountain views out across rainforest-covered ridges to the distant coast.

As well as quetzals, pumas, ocelots, margays and capuchin monkeys live in Monteverde, together with dozens of rare hummingbirds – like iridescent green-crowned brilliants, and brilliant-purple violet sabrewings.
