Shanti Maurice is a boutique lifestyle resort with an award-winning spa located around a pristine horseshoe coral sand cove, on the largely untouched south coast of Mauritius near the small town of St Felix. Formerly known as Shanti Ananda and a sister property to Ananda in the Himalayas, the re-launch of the resort in June 2010 marked a departure from the Ananda brand, with its Destination Spa roots, and embraces a genuine Mauritian experience.

On the beautiful south coast, Shanti Maurice has one of the Island’s best beaches. With pristine white sand stretching down to the clear turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean, the beach can be viewed from all suites and Villas. Coral reefs circle the sand and clusters of black volcanic rock create pools as the tide goes out.

Accommodation

Shanti Maurice comprises 61 spacious suites and villas, spread across a 36 acre landscape of fragrant tropical gardens. All 17 villas – including the Presidential villa – are located on the beautiful beachfront overlooking the Indian Ocean, and offer private pools, outdoor rain showers and dining pavilions or ‘Salas’. Design is a contemporary yet timeless blend of Mauritian and African culture and style. Interior spaces are fluid and spacious, with large windows allowing the sunshine to bathe interiors with light.
From the Luxury Villa with Pool, covering 208 square metres, to the 2 Bedroom Suite Villa with Pool, with additional living spaces bringing the total interior space to 500 square metres, accommodation at Shanti Maurice is among the most generous in Mauritius.
The resort’s 81 square metre Junior Suites are housed in villa buildings with four suites per villa. Ground floor suites have direct access to the beach, as well as an outdoor rain shower, while the suites on the first floor have large balconies overlooking the Indian Ocean. Complementing the spacious bedrooms and bathrooms, each Junior Suite has a separate dressing room with an open closet and dressing table.

Mauritian architect Jean-Marc Eynaud based the design of Shanti Maurice on a tropical model in order to reflect the resort’s natural surroundings. The interiors follow a similar theme, utilising a balanced palate of natural materials including local hardwoods, lava stone, granite, marble and slate. An added touch are the Painting easels and telescopes for stargazing, which have been installed in all of the villas to add to the guest experience, encouraging creative use of the unspoilt location by capturing its essence for a moment or a lifetime.
The Shanti Villa – The Shanti Villa is the epitome of luxurious sophistication with stunning uninterrupted views of the whole lagoon and beach available from every bedroom suite. As Shanti’s showpiece villa, this accommodation includes two master bedrooms with the option of a third with children’s beds. Executive Chef Willibald Reinbacher believes that ingredients should be fresh and local, and that the best way to understand a destination and its culture is through its cuisine. This philosophy is reflected throughout Shanti Maurice, from the resort’s extensive herb garden and relationships with local farmers and fishermen, to the island’s boutique distillery offering its oldest and finest casks for the resort’s rum.

Stars: At Stars, the signature restaurant at Shanti Maurice, Chef Reinbacher uses the freshest ingredients to create a vibrant ‘local fusion’ cuisine heavily influenced by the Cape Province of South Africa. Dishes are accompanied by carefully-selected South African wines, exemplifying Chef Reinbacher’s belief that wine from the same hemisphere complements local ingredients, whilst also minimising ‘food miles’.

Pebbles: offers an international, all-day dining menu, with cuisine reflecting the rich diversity of Mauritius’ cultural roots of Europe, Africa, China, the Middle East and India. The restaurant also offers spa cuisine, for guests preferring lighter, healthier dining options.
Fish and Rhum Shack: The resort’s rustic beach-side Fish and Rhum Shack celebrates the bounty of the surrounding seas, serving the freshly grilled and barbequed ingredients. Rum cocktails feature rum from the local distillery while the beer selection comes from the village brewery. In keeping with the rustic cuisine, Fish and Rhum Shack also regularly features Sega dancers from the local village.
Red Ginger Lounge: lounge bar is the perfect place to rendezvous for a pre-dinner aperitif or late-night cocktail. By day, the bar offers views across the infinity pool and beyond to the Indian Ocean; at night, discrete lighting picks out the sculptures and foliage in the exotic poolside gardens. Experienced bar tenders are on hand to conjure up a full range of cocktails from the most traditional highballs and white ladies to rum punches and exotic juices.
Picnics
The 36 acres of exotic garden at Shanti Maurice provide endless picnic-perfect spots. Staff are delighted to provide guests with gourmet hampers to enjoy with a chilled bottle of wine, and for those wishing to experience the wider environs, a picnic hamper can be taken to one of the areas of staggering natural beauty that surround the resort.

Grandma’s Kitchen: Shanti Maurice presents guests with a genuine Mauritian experience to relish – dining at “Grandma’s Kitchen”. Guests will have the opportunity to visit the local home of one of the resort’s very own team members’ grandmothers, who will impart her knowledge on Mauritian cooking with ingredients hand-picked from the local village farmer’s markets, before enjoying a meal around a communal table. To complete the experience, guests will leave armed some of Grandma’s special recipes, to recreate the flavours of Mauritius in their own kitchens.

Facilities

Shanti Maurice is perfectly placed to offer the best sporting activities both on land and at sea, ranging from golf on the nearby 18 hole Avalon Golf Estate, twin tennis courts, and water sports in the calm seas surrounding the resort.
Between the still green mountains and the crystal-clear sea, the curved beach is the perfect place to curl up under a parasol with a good book, and a classic cocktail. The beach is always tranquil, since we only offer non-motorised water sports, such as windsurfing, sailing, pedal boats, snorkelling and kayaking.

Families

The resort welcomes couples and families, and offers a Kids Club for children aged 3 to 12 years old (children under 3 years must be accompanied by a parent or carer) and Kids Activities. In every restaurant, an extensive “Kids Menu” is provided. The team offers the “Kids table” daily at 6:30 pm with family style shared dinner in the Stars restaurant.
Many of suites and villas are family-friendly, and can accommodate extra beds or baby cots and double storey beds for children. The communicating suites are perfect for families, and can provide added peace of mind while offering you the space and privacy you need for a relaxing holiday.
Kids Club: Les Petits Dodo is specially designed kids club which includes a toddler’s swimming pool, games room, film room, computers and games consoles, and excursions for children. The hotel also offer kids yoga classes to assist with posture and breathing, and a weekly kids activities program, crammed with fun-filled pursuits, such as flower making, kids’ yoga, face painting and musical games. A babysitting service is also available on request.
